Detecting Varroa mite in honey bee combs

Life science

We have developed a proof of concept for Wageningen University, in which we count the cells in a honey bee comb that are infected with Varroa mite, based on CT scans. This enables reliable high-throughput experiments.

Image: example result – true infected cells (top), detected bee locations (center), classification infected / not infected (bottom; infected cells marked with text labels, 100% accuracy in this case).

See our Automated bird phenotyping project for more work that we do for researchers.
